Community Policy
Draft. This text has not had its legal review yet and may change before Labyrinth ships in the app stores.
Last updated: October 9, 2026.
This policy applies to everyone who uses Labyrinth, and to every community, whatever its own rules say. A community can add rules of its own. It cannot allow what this policy forbids.
How Labyrinth works, and what we can do
Labyrinth communities run on their members’ own devices. There is no Labyrinth server holding your messages, and we cannot read them.
Labyrinth Chat LLC builds the Labyrinth app. We do not control what people write or share in a community. We control only access to that content through our own apps. You answer directly for what you post and share, and for any allegation about it.
When we receive a report or a request about content in a community, including a TAKE IT DOWN request, we pass it to that community’s admins, who can remove it. If the community does not resolve it, we can cut the community off from the Labyrinth apps distributed through the App Store, Google Play and the Mac App Store (the “store apps”). We do not delete anything ourselves, and a suspension removes nothing from anyone’s device. How that works, step by step, is on Reports and appeals.
Our staff never take part in a community. The one exception is reviewing an appeal from a suspended community: then a member of staff may join through an invite its admins supply, look, and leave.
Zero tolerance
These are never allowed, anywhere, in any form, including drawn, generated or edited images and text. A community where they appear and stay is suspended from the store apps.
- Child sexual abuse and exploitation. Any sexual content involving a minor, any content that sexualizes a minor, grooming or enticing a minor, sextortion, and child trafficking. See Child safety standards below.
- Intimate images shared without consent. Sharing, or threatening to share, nude or sexual images or video of a person without their consent, including intimate deepfakes and other images made or altered to look like a real person.
What is not allowed
- Harassment and bullying. Targeting a person with abuse, insults, threats or unwanted contact; encouraging others to pile on; publishing someone’s private information (their address, phone number, workplace or documents) without their consent.
- Threats and violence. Threatening to hurt a person or a group; inciting or glorifying violence; promoting terrorism or violent extremism; organizing violence.
- Hate. Attacking or demeaning people because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or serious illness.
- Self-harm. Encouraging or instructing suicide, self-harm or eating disorders. Talking about your own struggles, or supporting someone else, is not this.
- Sexual content without consent. Sexual content of anyone who did not agree to share it, and sexual content sent to people who did not ask for it.
- Illegal content and activity. Content that is illegal to share, and using Labyrinth to plan or carry out a crime, including selling illegal drugs, weapons or stolen goods, fraud, and human trafficking.
- Spam and scams. Unsolicited bulk messages, fake giveaways, phishing, malware, and schemes to take people’s money or accounts.
- Impersonation. Pretending to be another person, a community’s admin, or an organization (Labyrinth included) in a way that misleads people.
- Infringement. Sharing material you do not have the right to share. Our terms of service say how to send a copyright notice.
What community admins are responsible for
A community’s admins and moderators decide its rules and act on its reports. By running a community you agree to:
- keep a way for members to report content, and read the reports;
- act on reports of content this policy forbids, in a reasonable time;
- respond when we pass on a report or a request about your community. You will see it in the app as a notice, with the deadline and the case.
A community that leaves a report unhandled can be escalated to us by the person who reported it. We put the community on notice first. If the issue is not resolved by the deadline, the community is suspended from the store apps until we reinstate it after an appeal.
Child safety standards
Labyrinth has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE).
- Report it in the app. Every report sheet has a Child safety category. A child safety report goes to the community’s moderators and can be escalated to us at once, without waiting.
- Report it to the authorities. The report sheet links the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s CyberTipline, report.cybertip.org, so you can report it directly. If a child is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number (911 in the United States).
- Do not send us the images. No report or escalation in Labyrinth carries images or video, and we will never ask you for them. Describe what you saw and where.
- What we do. A credible child safety case suspends the community from the store apps as soon as we log it, with no notice period. We report to the CyberTipline as the law requires (18 U.S.C. 2258A) and keep what we reported for at least one year.
- Child safety contact. safety@labyrinth.chat, with “Child safety” in the subject. See Safety contact.
Muted words and blurred media
You can hide messages that contain words you choose, and blur images and video until you tap them. On Apple devices, if you have turned on Sensitive Content Warning in your system settings, Labyrinth uses Apple’s on-device analysis to blur sensitive media. All of this runs on your device; nothing is sent to us.
Changes to this policy
We may change this policy. The date at the top says when it last changed. If you keep using Labyrinth after a change, the new version applies.
